and dave, it's really not all that different from the midwest in terms of weather; truth be told, it's probably less cold. however, without insulation or central heating, it sure seems more miserable

yes, it should be quite clear from the photographs that unlike the north american variant, japanese snow enjoys the company of the same sex.
I second the "wuss" comment. Last winter in Noheji almost every night in January close to 1 meter of snow would fall. This year hasn't been as bad, but if I ever see that little snow on my car in the morning I let go a big sigh of relief.
